Wind and Hail Damage

Storms happen; here is how to know what wind and hail damage you have.

Understanding Hail Damage

Despite taking proactive steps to prevent damage, it's still possible for a storm to cause significant harm to your property. If a severe storm affects a vast area around your community, you may encounter "storm chasers" going door-to-door offering roofing services. At Slaughter Roofing, we are committed to our community and advise you to exercise caution in selecting a quality roofing contractor. As professional roofing contractors, Slaughter Roofing will inspect your roof to determine if you have sustained hail damage and/or enough hail damage to file an insurance claim. The reason hail is so damaging to a roof is that hail impact can cause small cracks in the shingles allowing water to reach places it is not meant to be. With our trained and experienced team, we will look for signs of hail damage, including:

  • Additional damage to surrounding areas, vehicles, windows, and yards.

  • Rounded indentations to shingle edging.

  • Missing granules around indentations.

  • Large amounts of granules in your gutters or downspouts.

Is it hail damage?

It is important to have a reliable roofing contractor inspect your roof for hail because other types of damage to shingles may be mistaken for hail damage. For example, exposure to inclement weather and sunlight makes shingles brittle and gives them an aged appearance. This normal wear and tear of shingles, which is sometimes misidentified as hail damage, and may also include:

  • Blistering

  • Flaking

  • Cracking

  • Algae

  • Granule Loss

Manufacturing defects and mechanical imperfections in shingles may also be mistaken for hail damage and will impact whether or not insurance will cover your repairs or replacement.

Roof Wind Damage

High winds can have a significant impact on your roof, causing shingles to become dislodged from the decking. This can eventually result in leaks and even structural damage if left unrepaired. Our experienced team can identify subtle signs of wind damage that homeowners might overlook, such as a broken adhesive seal, missing granules in horizontal lines, or creased shingles. Additionally, wind can carry debris that lands on your roof, leading to cracks in your shingles or their complete removal.

At Slaughter Roofing, we take care to inform you of your shingle's wind warranty based on the type of materials used. Armed with this knowledge, you can make an informed decision on the best repair option for your home.
